In addition, Brahmins are prohibited from doing some activities, such as:
- Make weapons.
- Kill animals.
- create or sell poisons,
- Hunt or trap wild animals.
- Perform any work associated with the death.
Other related concepts
In addition to the Brahmin caste and its members, who are also called Brahmans or Brahmins, there are other concepts that often cause confusion, due to the similarity in names. They are:
- Brahman : in Sanskrit it is written: ब्रह्मन्, and means “expansion”. It refers to a metaphysical concept that represents the Universal Principle, that is, everything that governs the universe. It is the absolute and immutable truth. Likewise, it is the reason and cause of everything that exists.
- Brahma : is one of the Hindu deities. He is known as the “creator” god and is also associated with knowledge and the holy scriptures Vedas . He is usually represented as a man with reddish or golden skin, with a beard, four heads and four hands. His heads look towards the cardinal points. He appears seated on lotus flowers, accompanied by a swan or a crane.
- Brahmanism : It is a polytheistic religion that focuses on worshiping the supreme god Brahma. Brahmanism is believed to have arisen in India 3,000 years ago, out of Vedism, the religion that was practiced during the Vedic period. It is based on the Vedas scriptures , affirms reincarnation and the existence of the soul. Currently it is considered as a transition between Vedism and Hinduism.
